• 1931: Mikhail Gorbachev was born on March 2nd in a family of peasant at a village in Privolnoe. He was brought up in the countryside.
• 1952: He joined the Communist Party. He also began studying at the Moscow State University.
• 1953: He met Raisa Titorenko and they both got married to each other.
• 1955: He graduated with a law degree from the Moscow State University.
• 1962: After working for a certain time period, he got promoted to the position of party administrator for the collective state farms.
• 1966: He was then appointed as the first secretary of Stavropol. This position was equivalent to that of a Mayor.
• 1970: He got the post of first secretary in Stavropol Territorial Party Committee. This proved to be one of the major steps towards his national recognition as it was equivalent to the position of a governor.
• 1980: He became a member of the ruling Politburo.
• 1985: He got into the power and then initiated several programs.
• 1992: Mikhail Gorbachev started up an organization known as the Gorbachev Foundation and is still serving as its president since then. This organization is also known by the name of International Foundation for Socio-Economic and Political Studies. This is recognized as the very first association to be independent in terms of thinking as well as putting forwards the ideas.
