What Year Was Nelson Mandela Released ?

Nelson Mandela got released in 1990. He was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment in the year 1964. He had to spend 27 years of his life in isolation and working very hard as a laborer. Though he was offered release by the government since the beginning of 1980, he refused due to the fact the release was accompanied with a lot of conditions which he could never agree for. Thus he had to spend some more time in prison.

After this he made earnest efforts to get back into the work that he had left in order to accomplish his goals that they all had set around 4 decades ago. He was freed from his sentence of life imprisonment after spending 27 years in prison. His release resulted in some kind of relaxation in terms of the apartheid laws. He came out at the prison’s gate holding his wife’s hand. He saluted out of victory and people expressed their happiness through dancing across the streets. At this point Mandela made a remarkable statement that their march for freedom was not at all irreversible.

Mandela came to address the people and stated that then was the time for intensifying the struggle by all means. He also said that the struggle had attained the decisive moment. His addressing was covered live and people at their homes sitting in front their television screens could also feel his presence. He was also interviewed by BBC in the year 1961 and that was the very first time that he had spoken on television.
