Born on February 6, 1911 at Tampico in the U.S. State of Illinois, Ronald Reagan was the second son of Nellie Wilson and John Reagan. Due to his peculiar hair style and physical appearance that resembled a Dutchman, he was nicknamed as ‘Dutch’ in his childhood. He completed his primary schooling in Dixon in the 1920s, and showed great interest in storytelling, sports, and acting during schooldays. |

- Reagan’s first job was that of the lifeguard at Rock River in Dixon. He joined this job in 1926 and saved as many as 77 lives during his service.
- The athletic scholarship that he had won in year 1928 gave him an opportunity to join Eureka College, Illinois, from where he received bachelor’s degree in sociology and economics.
- After completing his graduation, he began to work in radio stations as sports announcer and commentator.
- The screen test that he cleared in the year 1937 got him a 7-year long contract with the Warner Brothers and also his first break in the Hollywood movies. ‘Love is On the Air’ was his first feature movie.
- During World War II, he became the captain of Army Air Corps and continued service till 1945, after which he returned to Hollywood.
- He married Jane Wyman in 1940, fathered two kids, adopted third child, and finally got divorced in 1949. He got married to Nancy Davis in year 1952. Interestingly, he was the very first U.S. president to get divorced.
- In the 1960s, Reagan became a very famous political figure and a strong supporter of Republican Party. He soon became California’s third Governor in the year 1967. He brought about several political and social reforms and his strong economic views came pertaining to entrepreneurship and spending became popular as Reaganomics.
- He was elected as U.S. President in 1980 and served two consecutive terms in office till 1989. He was the oldest U.S. President, who retired at age of 77 years.
- He succumbed to pneumonia and Alzheimer’s disease on 5th June 2004 and is remembered till date as the ‘Great Communicator’.
