He started working with a moving company, and then he took up playing rugby in his spare time.He also enrolled in a local gym where professional wrestlers used to come. Eventually he joined the Wrestling Mania, and was soon known to be the best. At times, Andre the Giant was also referred to as the eighth wonder of the world. Andre was very popular in the wrestling industry to the extent that promoters had to wait for a long time or fight a tough battle to book him. He has fought several wrestlers including Hulk Hogan. He became the highest paid wrestler of his time.
Andre’s parents were Russian immigrants. Soon after his birth, Andre was diagnosed with a rare glandular disease which led to gigantism. By the time he was 12 years old, Andre was nearly 6 feet tall. As an adult he was 7 feet and 5 inches tall. He had a massive body and also weighed over five hundred pounds. Also, because of Andre’s illness, he had a slightly bent figure. Due to his vital statistics, doctors never expected Andre to live very long. It was rumored that Andre had a drinking problem also. It is said that people who saw him drinking were always astounded at his capacity. It would take a lot of drinks to start affecting him in the first place. Also, since he had to consume a great quantity of food, his heart gradually started weakening as it needed to put in excessive work to pump the blood. This ultimately led to his untimely death at the age of 46.
