As a child, Hogan was not very special. And, he definitely did not have the physique that he has today. He actually was a fat child.He was not much of a sports person, but he was a pitcher in the Little League Basketball team. However, more than baseball, even as a child, he had a peculiar interest in wrestling. He used to go to the Tampa Sportarium to watch wrestling matches and wrestlers practicing.
When he was about 16 years old, he was a great admirer of Dusty Rhodes. At that time Billy Graham was a superstar. So, Terry turned to him for inspiration. However, Terry never considered wrestling as a profession even when he was a child. It was Mike Graham who found him and convinced him to take up wrestling.
Terry as a child took great interest in music also. He played bass guitar, and worked for several local bands in Tampa and Florida. Terry studied Business Administration and also continued with his music career for a while. He worked as a clerk in a bank and also as a bouncer for clubs.
Terry grew to be 6 feet and 5 inches tall. He had an impressive height and physique. It was his physical stature that attracted Mike Graham.
He got introduced to Hiro Matsuda, who was a trainer in the wrestling industry. He took special interest in Terry and brought him up to expectations.
