Types Of Exorcisms

Exorcism is generally referred to the religious practice that is known for evicting the demons or other kinds of spiritual entities from a place, person, or thing that are believed of being possessed by causing these entities to swear some oath. This term became quite popular during early Christianity which was a period from the beginning of the 2nd century onwards. There is no doubt that this practice is highly ancient and the fact that it is a part of several belief systems as well as various religions and cultures.

Talking of its types, there are several different types of exorcism in Roman Catholic Church. Given below is a brief description about these types:

  • Baptismal exorcism: It is the practice under which an infant is blessed before baptism in order to cleanse it of the evils that might result from the original sin.
  • Simple exorcism: This is another kind of exorcism which includes blessing a thing or a place in order to get rid of the influence put by some evil forces.
  • Real exorcism: This practice includes the Rite of Exorcism for helping a human being of getting rid of a diabolical possession. This is the kind of exorcism that comes to the minds of people whenever they think or hear anything about exorcism. Under this practice, the priest-exorcist deals with the person or thing possessed by devil.

Several people have several views about exorcism and it is something that can neither be proved true nor discarded. Thus, it is entirely an individual’s call whether they believe it or not.
