Zodiac And Constellation Legends

There 12 zodiac signs in the western astrology system, and all these 12 zodiac signs represent the 12 months in a year.

The 12 zodiac signs are actually the constellations of stars in the sky. Each zodiac sign is represented by a sign. The 12 signs or constellations are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. All these constellations can be found in the night sky. According to Greek mythology, each of the constellations has a unique story. These are called the legends of the zodiac. The Northern Constellation is known as the Ram. According to Greek mythology, the King of Thessaly had two children who were ill treated by their stepmother. These children were rescued by the golden ram sent by the God Hermes.

The Taurus is the second of the zodiac sign and is represented by the bull. This is thought of as the reincarnation of the Osiris according to the Egyptians. The Greeks think that it is Zeus who is disguised as the bull. According to Greek mythology, Zeus fell in love Europa, who was the daughter of the King of Phoenicia. One day, when Europa was playing on the shore of the sea, a beautiful white bull comes to her attention. The bull was the animal form of Zeus. When she approaches the bull, the animal kneels before her. Europa climbs on the bull's back ties garlands of flowers around its horn. However, the bull charges into the sea and swims with Europa on his back to Crete. Here Europa becomes Zeus' mistress and bears him children.

Gemini is called the twins, and represents the half brothers Castor and Pollux who hatched from the egg of their mother. They are sons of Zeus and Leda. The twins join Jason's Argonauts and set sail in search of the Golden Fleece. However, in one of the raiding trips, Castor is killed. Pollux is very upset about losing his beloved brother. So, Zeus places him next to his brother in heaven.

Similarly, each star sign has constellation legend associated with it. All these legends form part of the Greek mythology and are inter-connected.
