How Many Carbs In A Banana ?

Bananas are basically very healthy and have lots of benefits. They are a great source of potassium, Vitamin C, Vitamin B, magnesium and fiber.

Bananas are also very rich in carbohydrates. Carbohydrates basically consist of sugar. This sugar gets converted to glucose, which is the body’s main source of energy.A small banana may have about 23 grams of carbohydrates, while a medium-sized banana may have about 27 grams of carbohydrates. A large banana may have around 31 grams of carbohydrates. While bananas have a high carbohydrate count, they also have high levels of potassium, and they are a very good source of Vitamin A, riboflavin, folic acid, niacin and Vitamin B6. While one medium sized banana may provide you with 27 grams of carbohydrates, which is 21 percent of the RDA, it also provides 3 grams of fiber which is about 12 percent of the RDA, about 16 percent of the RDA of manganese, and 422 mg of potassium, which is about 12 percent of the RDA.

However, in spite of all these benefits of bananas, if someone is on a low carbohydrate diet, then they should avoid bananas. This is because a banana has a little less carbohydrate than potatoes, but it is also full of starch. Of course the riper the banana, the lesser carbohydrates it has. Though it is true that banana is a wholesome fruit which takes care of quite a lot of our daily requirements of Vitamin C, potassium and manganese, it has quite a good amount of carbohydrates and calories as well.
