How To Make Black Garlic ?

Black garlic is made from the regular garlic through a special process of fermentation. It is sticky in consistency and also sweet in taste. However, black garlic is becoming extremely popular in the culinary world, and also in exotic cooking. It has several antioxidants compared to the regular garlic clove. Making you own black garlic is very simple and does not take much of your time and effort.

These are the following things that you need in order to make black garlic.

  • Garlic bulbs
  • Glass pot with cover
  • Oven
  • Oven thermometer

You will need to preset the oven at 150 degrees F, or 60 degrees Celsius. However, black garlic cannot be done one single day; and so give it a time period of at least forty days. Put the garlic into a glass container and close the lid tight. Garlic should have humidity locked inside the jar too. The garlic is made by setting the humidity very high and it is a very important part of the process. During this forty day period, the garlic will ferment in the jar and goes through some chemical changes. It is this process that increases the anti oxidants in garlic. As long as the fermentation process is taking place, do not disturb the garlic and leave it be. When it is close to forty days, you will notice through the clear glass jar that the garlic has turned black and it is now ready for usage. It can be used in soups and starters or while preparing meat dishes.
