How To Grow Horseradish ?
Several people have mixed feelings about horseradish. Either they love it or they hate it. If you are a person who loves horseradish, then the good news is that you can grow it in your own home. It is extremely easy and grows well in varied conditions. Here are some of the things you will need to get started. |
- Compost Makers
- Fertilizers
- Garden Spades
- Garden Trowels
- Plants
- Potting Soil
- Rototillers
- Horseradish Roots
- Plants
Buy the root or the plant from a nursery and do not attempt to grow it from the seeds. Horseradish does not grow very well from the roots. The ideal time to plant it is after the frost in spring. You can either choose to grow it in a pot or in your garden. Choose a secluded spot for it; and the soil should be well drained in that area. Moderate to good sunlight is required. Even if it is shady; the radish will still grow. Choose the plumpest of the root, and make a hole in the soil that is a minimum of twelve inches in depth. Remove all small rocks and obstructions from the hole. Set the roots at least 8 inches apart.
Grow four to five roots in the beginning and once you get used to the plant and understand its behavior, you can always plant more. Put some mulch, so that the roots retain the moisture that is required for the plant. You can harvest horseradish in midsummer.
