One of the most interesting plants to grow in containers is gourd. If you have limited garden space, you can grow them in small containers. Most often when people grow plants on their windowsill, they just make use of terracotta pots. However, containers made from such material tend to dry out soon. So, it is better to grow plants in large plastic containers. Plastic containers that are 24 inches in diameter are the best option when growing gourds in containers.
The container you choose should have good drainage at the bottom. In order to make this happen, it is necessary to put a layer of rocks at the bottom of the container, since this will prevent water stagnating in the container. As the gourd is being grown in small containers, make sure that you put top quality soil and compost material into the container. This will ensure proper growth.
Make holes at the bottom of the container, so that roots of the plant can grow through. One thing that container plants need is the right level of sunshine and shade. Place the container in such a way that the plant gets adequate levels of both. Another issue is that containers tend to dry out. So, it is necessary to water the container frequently.
As the gourd grows, they will want to climb. Construct a vertical framework to aid growth, and the simplest way to do this is to make a medium gauge wire mesh cylinder, which is extended about four feet over the upper edges of the pot. This helps the gourd to easily grow.
