How Do You Cook Sweet Potatoes ?

Sweet potatoes are fairly easy to cook, and can be prepared in a number ways. You can bake, fry, or steam them, or use them to make delicious desserts. Sweet potatoes are starchy root vegetables that are shaped just like regular potatoes, but the flesh inside can be yellow or orange. The outer skin can be brown, orange, yellow or white. The ones that are yellow in color are ideal for cooking, especially when the outer skin is free or wrinkles or bruises.

If you plan to use them after some time, you must know the correct way of storing sweet potatoes, since they get spoiled very quickly. Keep them away from moisture and in a cool dry place like a cellar, but never in the refrigerator. You can cook sweet potatoes in many different ways. If you are planning to eat them with all the nutrients intact and just a sprinkling of butter and salt, you can boil the sweet potatoes in their skin.

For baking sweet potatoes, you must first preheat your oven at 376 degrees Fahrenheit, and then place the sweet potatoes on a baking tray, with small holes made on each and every potato with the help of fork. Baking for 30 to 45 minutes should be enough to make the sweet potatoes tender. You can also bake them by making thin wafer-like slices, coating them with olive oil and then baking till tender. You can also microwave the sweet potatoes, or use them to make French fries.
