Chicken pox is a childhood disease caused by a virus called Varicella Zoster. The same virus also causes another condition called shingles. The virus belongs to family of the herpes virus. Chicken pox starts with a mild fever like 102 degrees Fahrenheit and then slowly progresses to higher fever. The body feels itchy and the person starts developing rashes on the torso, face and the scalp. These rashes appear red in color on the first day, and then they become blisters in a day or two. After four days they start drying out.
Chicken pox is an extremely contagious disease. It can easily spread from one person to another through basic contact. The virus is extremely contagious in the first three to four days. The cure for chicken pox is ample rest and medications. There is also vaccination available for the disease.
Measles is also one of the childhood diseases. However, there is a vaccination called the MMR that is given to all children. It is unlikely that children develop this disease once being vaccinated. Measles starts with a pinkish red rash appearing on the chest or the respiratory tract area. The person with this disease also develops cough and congestion. They have runny or itchy eyes also. The entire nasal tract is infected. They also find bright light to be very uncomfortable. The rash of measles may spread to other parts like the ear and nose and near the eyes.
Measles is a rare disease now because most of the children receive vaccinations, and the disease only exists in impoverished countries.
