Home Remedy For Fever Blisters

Fever blisters, also known as cold sores, develop as small red spots on the lips and/or on the outer regions of the mouth. These spots go on to get fluid in them a day or two later and then they burst to form ulcers. Thereafter, the ulcers crust over after a couple of days.

These blisters occur due to the herpes virus, which become active on getting triggered. While there is no cure for fever blisters, there are several home remedies available to decrease the frequency of the outbreak and also the severity. It has been seen that these blister usually occur when a person gets a cold, fever, stress at the time of menstruation and also getting excessively exposed to the sun.

In addition, a person prone to fever blisters should be careful about what they eat. They should not consume chocolates, peanuts or any other kind of nuts, grains, seeds, oatmeal, seeds and whole wheat products.

Usually, before the fever blisters erupt, the skin tends to feel tingly or there would be an itching or burning sensation. When this occurs, the sensation can be alleviated by applying aloe vera juice. If the juice is not available, then aloe vera gel can also be used. The aloe vera will prevent the sores from growing. Cornstarch also works in the same manner. If the sores form, then mix a couple of drops of grapefruit seed extract with olive oil and apply it on the sores. Instead of olive oil, aloe oil can also be used.

The moment the blisters appear, place an ice cube on the blisters for around ten minutes. This should be done every hour to prevent the virus from moving to different parts of the skin. It has been seen the lemon balm extract not only helps to lessen the symptoms, it also helps to hasten the healing process.

Another home remedy for fever blisters includes mixing tinctures of calendula, Echinacea, oats, lomatium and burdock. Take equal quantities of the tinctures. Then the person should consume half a teaspoon of the mixture 5 times in a day. This will help to reduce the inflammation of the skin, flush out the toxins from the body, and also destroy the virus.

Even drinking sage tea mixed with a little bit of ginger powder throughout the day will help the blisters to clear up. In order to hasten the healing of the fever blisters, apply the extract of mint on the region where the blisters are present.
