Prolapsed Internal Hemorrhoids
Internal hemorrhoids are graded from 1 to 4 based on their size and severity. A Grade 1 internal hemorrhoid is not severe and is present inside the anus, on the lining of the rectum.
Grade 2 internal hemorrhoids can get prolapsed, but they do not have to be pushed back inside. They go back on their own into the anus. On the other hand, a Grade 3 internal hemorrhoid is a prolapsed hemorrhoid and tends to jut out of the anus. Such a hemorrhoid can be pushed gently with the fingers inside the anus using a finger. But a Grade 4 internal hemorrhoid cannot be pushed back into the anus and therefore tends to hang out of the anus permanently.
Can You Push External Hemorrhoids In?
If a person has lumps around the anal opening, it means that the person is suffering from external hemorrhoids. These lumps can be painful or sensitive to touch. However, external hemorrhoids cannot be pushed into the anus, as they develop on the skin surface outside the anal opening. If you try pushing external hemorrhoids in, you will experience a lot of pain and also may end up causing more damage to the veins. Hence, do not attempt to push in external hemorrhoids under any circumstances.
Causes for External Hemorrhoids
People, who do not drink enough water and eat fiber-rich diet, are prone to hemorrhoids. These lifestyle habits lead to chronic constipation and as a result the person always strains when they want to go to the toilet. The straining puts pressure on the veins, resulting in internal or external hemorrhoids. However, pregnancy, aging, anal intercourse, obesity and certain diseases, such as cirrhosis of the liver, can also result in hemorrhoids.
Symptoms of External Hemorrhoids
External hemorrhoids are painful and tend to bleed. You will notice blood in your stools or on the toilet paper. The hemorrhoids also cause skin irritation and itching around the anal region. This can make it difficult for the person to keep the anal region clean after passing stools which can further aggravate the hemorrhoids. External hemorrhoids tend to get swollen and inflamed.
