Hepatitis basically is liver inflammation, usually borne out of infection. This inflammation is caused by hepatitis-C virus or HCV. Hepatitis C disease is now considered a growing menace in the US and also globally. This is mainly because it is a highly contagious disease and is transmitted mostly during any form or blood contact.
Reuse or needles and syringes to put in recreational drugs are like giving a chance to the IV drug user a chance to acquire hepatitis C. Even if the needle had been used years ago does not also ensure the safety of the process as these viruses do not die over the years. Also if a person is transfused with infected blood or hemodialysis is performed on him, he gets a huge chance of being affected with this deadly disease.
There are some other factors which, though are a cause of Hepatitis C, is found in rare cases. One of them is if a baby is born to an infected mother, he automatically gets affected by it. Also, if one has sexual intercourse with a hepatitis C victim, he or she is likely to get infected too.
But there are some factors too which, even though some believe can cause hepatitis, but in reality do not contribute to it. For example, one cannot get affected by hepatitis C just by living with or touching or simply staying close to an infected person. There needs to be a definite form of blood contact like using the victim’s razor or blade. This is a deadly disease with limited cure. What makes it more concerning is that many do not even realize that they are infected as it does not show much signs. So be sure to avoid any of the causes mentioned to stay safe.
