Myopia is a very common vision problem and is characterized by near sightedness. Many people think that myopia is caused due to excessive reading but it is not so and it can be due to any reason. Some of the habits like watching excessive television or working too much on the computer could have added to the condition.
Myopia and nearsightedness are basically the same condition and people who have it cannot read or see something that is very close. It looks like a blurred image to them. As we become old, we develop a poor eye sight and it is characterized by either near sightedness or long sight.
After the eye has been focusing on a very close object for a long time it locks the muscle in a state of near focus. Over a period of time, this leads to lengthening of the eye, which is abnormal. Myopia can also lead to other eye diseases. Also, if the person does not get medical attention on time then the condition gets worse and the points in which the sightedness is measured keeps increasing. Short sightedness or myopia is measured in negative points. The eye doctor keeps prescribing stronger glasses and also they start getting thicker. People who have this condition also have the option of wearing contact lenses.
People of all ages can get this disease, including small children. However, it is very difficult to identify in younger children as they do not know how to express and they think that what they are seeing is how it looks. It is only when their school grades start dropping a person realizes.More Articles :
