Typhoid Causes

Typhoid is an acute illness that can become fatal if proper treatment is not received by the infected person. It is caused by a bacterium called salmonella typhi. The bacterium can get deposited in food or water that humans consume and spread into their body. The bacterium gets transferred to water or food through poor sanitation and hygiene procedures.

The salmonella typhi bacterium can live only in human bodies. The person infected with typhoid will pass the bacteria in their stools. If the sanitation procedures are poor, the water gets mixed with ground water and seeps into drinking water. If a person consumes contaminated water, then they are highly likely to get infections like typhoid. Poor sanitation procedures are one of the top reasons for getting typhoid. Another common reason for the spread of typhoid can be milk. However, what role does milk plays exactly we may not know. It is possible that milk has been diluted with contaminated water or has not been treated properly.

Typhoid causes severe fever in the beginning weeks of the infection. The fever can go up to 105 degree centigrade, and makes the person extremely unstable at such a high temperature. That is why a person has been sponged down immediately with a cold towel. Typhoid can take a toll on a person’s health. It weakens the immune system to great extent, and also makes them prone to more infections. Worldwide nearly 13 million people get typhoid annually, and more than 500 thousand reported cases die. It is more frequent in endemic area.
