Naproxen is a drug that is used for anti inflammatory purposes in the body. It can treat joint pain, muscle cramps and tissue damage. Naproxen is mostly prescribed on short term treatments for people who have had injuries or suffered trauma. It can be taken for mild back pains instead of Advil or Motrin.
It is also taken by women during menses to fight menstrual cramps. The Food and Drug Administration of the United States has declared it to be a safe drug that can be used to treat pain. A milder dosage of naproxen is also being used to neurotic disorders like Alzheimer’s.
When it comes to long-term condition like rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis or tendonitis, the usage of Naproxen is monitored by the physician. It is usually controlled to a great extent due to its side effects. There are several other anti inflammatory drugs whose long term effects can be less damaging. Naproxen can cause perforations in the stomach, and also cause heart attack. It works by controlling the immune system and stopping it from releasing prostaglandin. Prostaglandin is responsible for causing inflammation as a natural immune response.
However, the tendency to control the hormone production on long term basis can cause the blood pressure to go up and eventually ending in a heart attack. High blood pressure makes the body like a ticking bomb and can lead to heart attack. Most doctors try to restrict the usage of this medication on long-term knowing its tendency to interfere with the functioning of the heart.
