Percocet And Blood Clotting

Blood clotting inside the body is known as Homeostasis. It is an immune reaction of the body in order to stop the blood vessels from bleeding. The human body has a natural mechanism to stop excessive clotting and also dissolve the blood clots.

If there is improper functioning of the mechanism which ensures blood clotting, then the body would lose a lot of blood. On the other hand, when clotting is excessive the body retains these clots which can travel in the blood vessels and into the heart creating blockages. Clogged blood vessels can cause strokes. Clots from any part of the body like legs, hands and abdomen can actually travel to the heart.

Percocet is a narcotic pain killer and is usually prescribed in a combination of Oxycodone and Acetaminophen. It is mainly used to treat moderate to severe pain. The Oxycodone properties of this combination help to treat the condition more effectively and much faster.

The acetaminophen qualities of the combination ensure thinning of blood. Any blood thinning medication helps in clearing blockages like clots in the blood vessels. However, Percocet cannot be used as a primary medication to treat blood clots. Percocet has a milder dosage of acetaminophen in it. In order to treat clots using this medication you would need to take a very high dosage. This can cause stomach ulcers when taken for a prolonged period. The clots can start to form after the intake of the medication is stopped. Percocet cannot be prescribed for a prolonged period for its addictive nature.
