Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, more commonly known as SSRI, and the Serotonin and Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors, also known as SNRI, are more reasonable for dysfunction of sexual life. Whereas Wellbutrin is less effective in this front. So going by this reading, sexual dysfunction could be more due to serotonergic medicines to fight against depression.

Wellbutrin, with the lowest rate overall, is rated with 22 percent of sexual dysfunction compared to all other anti-depressants. Wellbutrin chemically is norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor, more commonly known as NDRI.

Anti-depressants do have this side effect of sexual dysfunction more often. So, it is quite common side effect, although it would depend on the individual. Their structure, dosage and the anti-depressant they are taking. Sexual dysfunction would mean dysfunction of ejaculation or erection, less sexual desire and difficulty to achieve orgasm.

Wellbutrin, a NDRI, has been accorded that it has lower side effect on sexual life according to a research and hence, considered safer. It also would depend on one’s dosage, frequency and their structure other than the severity of their depression or anxiety. With the improvement in health, side effects may cease. Although, with some anti-depressants, this side effect could last till the completion of the treatment or till the completion of the dosage.

It has become a subject of debate as to how these anti-depressants could affect a sexual desire and its dysfunction. While some feel it could be due to the sedation, others blame the chemicals that work on the brain. The possibilities are that the main culprit could be the depression and anxiety itself and not these anti-depressant medications.
