Signs Of Implantation Bleeding
Implantation is the process wherein the fertilized egg gets attached to the uterus wall. During this process, the egg makes way through the inner lining of the uterus, known as the endometrium. It does so as to make links with the mother’s blood vessels to get oxygen and nutrients for its survival and growth. Implantation bleeding is one of the signs of pregnancy. However, the absence of it does not imply that a woman is not pregnant. In implantation bleeding, the vagina discharges pink or brown spotting unlike the red during normal periods.
Usually, implantation bleeding is not accompanied by any symptom, but, sometimes, it might cause slight pain in the uterus and the basal body temperature might increase. Implantation bleeding along with nausea, exhaustion, vomiting, or tender or swollen breasts, abdominal bloating, and frequent urination confirms pregnancy in a woman. If the implantation bleeding is followed by pain, it might be warning bell of an ectopic pregnancy, which is a complex situation. It means that the fertilized egg has got implanted somewhere else than the wall of the uterus.
Though most of the times, it can get attached to the fallopian tubes, it can also happen in the abdomen, ovaries or the cervix. It usually happens two to seven days before the onset of the next menstrual cycle. Sometimes, it can also be misunderstood for menstrual bleeding. But, if the pink or brown spotting does not lead to heavy bleeding, it can be confirmed as implantation bleeding. However, studies show that there are no health risks due to implantation bleeding.
