Going through a burn incidence is a horribly painful experience. Small incidences related to burning can keep happening both with kids and adults. It is hence, important to know how to deal with burns and what to put on them.
First and foremost, it is important to let the affected area of burn be washed under cold running water for at least 15 minutes. This will cool down the temperature. You can then put on a dressing, preferably of sterile gauze. If the burn leaves behind more than just a small patch of red color, you can put around a Saran Wrap loosely on the area of burn. But, do not wrap it on any limb to prevent any swelling or more pain. You can continue to soothe down the burn with water over the wrap.
Ointments or creams should be used only on minor burns. Ointments and creams composed of Tea Tree oil and Aloe Vera are known to be effective against burn wounds. Make sure you cool down the burn injury completely by cold water before applying any cream or ointment. You can use pain relievers like ibuprofen and aspirins, although the use of aspirin is not advisable to children.
You should call for a medical help urgently in the following cases:
- If there are blisters and the skin looks charred and the wounds are deep.
- If the burn has affected the genitals, eyes, lips etc.
- In cases of burns due to electricity as it involves the possibility of damage within the body.
