Bottle feeding and breast-feeding a baby are mandatory tasks to be carried out by all the mothers in order to provide maximum nourishment to them. However, much are said about when and how to start the process of bottle-feeding in a baby but most are still unaware as to when to stop bottle feeding their babies and start off a more mature routine.
Most pediatricians suggest that once a baby reaches eighteen month of his age, he should be stopped to be bottle fed. However, this age can depend of the nutritional wants of the baby too. But, if the family doctor suggests weaning off the bottle, it must be done with immediate effect, as the longer time the mother will take to stop this habit, the more the baby would start getting attached to the bottle. This may give rise to some behavioral problems later in the child.
However, stopping the child from bottle-feeding is neither easy nor and instantaneous task. For example, to ensure that a baby is freed from the habit of bottle feeding at the age of one and a half years, he should be introduced to a cup right from the age of six months or so. The baby will them take his own time to get accustomed to it and then decided the cup over the bottle, with the passage of time.
Another approach that can be taken to put an end to bottle feeding is to hide the bottle the baby is used to be fed from, away from his notice. After a few days, he might forget about it and concentrate more on the cup he is fed with. This can be done from the time the baby learns to sit up on his own.
