Night Terrors In Children

Night terror in children is now becoming quite a common problem as far as the small kids are concerned. There are several parents who keep worrying about their children regarding these night terrors. BBC has reported that around 3 percent of the children experience such night terrors, and most of these are boys. Studies prove that these night terrors are quite probable to exist in families as any other sleeping disorders.

Children experiencing such night terrors are often thought of being awake due to their acts though they are fast asleep. But these night terrors should not be considered similar to the nightmares as they both are entirely different from each other. Nightmares are known to occur in the earlier stages of sleep, while the night terrors tend to occur in later stages. If a child shows abnormal behavior as well as extreme fear when they appear to be awakened, they probably are experiencing such night terrors and, thus, they should be given the right care.

Night terrors are observed in young kids who fall in the age group of 3 to 5 years and especially amongst the boys. It is important that their parents must be careful and must get alarmed at the right time so that the issues can be tackled properly. In some of the rare cases, girls may also be observed experiencing such night terrors. Parents must try and find out the signs of night terrors which include rapid heart beats, crying or screaming, confusion, overwhelming terror, strange behavior, sweating, irritable to sooth back, and inability regarding being fully awakened. They must further make efforts towards making their kids get rid of such things.
