What Kinds of Problems Do Illegal Immigrants Cause ?
Out of the several problems faced by a country, the biggest is the problem of illegal immigration and cross-border migration. Apart from escalating security-related tensions, illegal immigration is also a major cause for impeding prosperity of the country. |
Annually, around 800,000 foreigners migrate legally into the United States out of which at least 200,000 voluntarily resettle down as illegal immigrants, thus violating the U.S. immigration and nationality law. The biggest hurdle caused by this illegal immigration is unemployment. Illegal immigrants in the country continue to compete with the Native Americans for jobs. As these immigrants are more willing to do undesirable, labor-intensive jobs at low-cost, they are preferred most by employers.
Another major problem is increasing burden on the country’s economy since huge amounts of dollars need to be spent towards providing rehabilitation to illegal immigrants. The government is dependent on the money collected through taxes in order to fund all the support programs. Apart from this, a country also has to pay the salaries of additional patrolmen deployed for safeguarding the border.
Illegal immigration adds to the problem of over population causing a shortage of basic necessities such as residential land, potable drinking water, food and vital energy resources. Other significant problem caused due to illegal migration includes increased racial violence, increased crime rate, environmental degradation, promoting terrorism inside the country and corruption. Illegal immigration is also a risk for National security. There are numerous instances where security officials have exchanged confidential information in exchange for sex and other pleasures. Such types of illegal immigrants are particularly employed by foreign governments to assist in violation of border security.
Healthcare system is greatly affected due to illegal immigration. Global wide spreading of diseases such as Chagas, Ebola, West Nile virus, AIDS, Tuberculosis, SARS and Influenza has been primarily due to illegal immigration.
