Summary Of Proposed Healthcare Reform Legislation  

The bill of Healthcare Reform is 1017 pages long, and contains bureaucratic language that is usually not understood easily. However, many people have made an effort to summarize some of the key points proposed in the Healthcare Reform Legislation.

Here is a summary of the some of the main points proposed in the Legislation:

  • Page 16: If a person had insurance when the Bill became a law and then decided to change the insurance, he would be required to have the same plan as the one he had earlier. If the person cannot get the same plan, then the only option open to him is the government option.
  • Page 22: All self-insured employers would necessarily have to undergo audits.
  • Page 29: Admission: your health care will be controlled
  • Page 30: When it comes to treatments and benefits, a government committee will decide on these. However, you cannot appeal the decision made by the committee as you can with the insurance provider.
  • Page 42: The Health Choices Commissioner will be responsible for deciding the health benefits for people, who will have no choice in the matter.
  • Page 50: All non-US citizens, illegal or otherwise, will be provided with free healthcare services.
  • Page 58: Every person in the country would be issued a National ID Health-card.
  • Page 59: The federal government will have direct, real-time access to all individual bank accounts for electronic funds transfer.
  • Page 65: Taxpayers' money would be used to subsidize union retiree and community organizer health plans.
  • Page 72: All private healthcare plans must obey the rules set forth by the government if they would to be part of the Healthcare Exchange.
  • Page 84: Private healthcare plans have to necessarily be part of the Healthcare Exchange.
  • Page 95: The Government will pay ACORN and Americorps an incentive in order to get people to sign up for the government-run healthcare plan.
  • Page 102: Anyone eligible for Medicaid will be automatically enrolled without having to seek their permission for the enrollment.
  • Page 124: The health insurance companies cannot sue the government for price fixing.
  • Page 127: The government will set wages for the doctors. This was based on the agreement that the government had with the American Medical Association.
  • Page 145: An employer has to automatically enroll employees into the government run healthcare plans. The employer cannot offer any alternatives.
