Public intoxication is a condition where a person appears in an inebriated condition in public places, posing a potential danger to oneself, the people surrounding the person and to public property in general. Different states have different laws and rules pertaining to public intoxication, or PI.

The United States of America has passed numerous laws and rules to restrict its citizens’ drinking habits but has not been largely successful in dealing with the problem completely. Pubic intoxication law is applicable to anyone who has committed a first or second-degree mistake. The severity of the condition can depend on the seriousness of the offence committed. The offender can either be fined a hefty amount for appearing in an intoxicated condition or be imprisoned for a stipulated period.
