When Should You Take Tamiflu ?
Tamiflu, a popular flu medicine, was recently stockpiled by governments of all countries across the globe to fight against H1N1 virus responsible for swine flu. It is an expensive medicine and was prescribed by doctors for patients suffering from influenza or flu-like symptoms. It is highly effective in alleviating the symptoms of flu the moment they appear. |
Thus, Tamiflu should be taken when you experience flu-like symptoms, including cold, cough, shivers, chills, etc. The drug can be taken to prevent as well curb the common flu-symptoms.
Tamiflu should be administered positively within forty-eight hours of onset of flu symptoms. If you already have a flu patient in the family, you can also take Tamiflu, as recommended by your physician, to protect yourself from contracting the disease from the infected family member. One capsule of Tamiflu should be taken twice in a day, one in morning and one in evening, for five continuous days. In case of a community outbreak of swine flu, you might have to consume the medicine for almost six weeks. So, it is strongly recommended to consult your doctor before starting the Tamiflu course.
Tamiflu can be safely taken by children above the age of 12 months, adolescents, young adults, and the elderly. However, the doses might be different in each case. It should not be administered to children below age of 12 months, nursing or pregnant women, and patients with heart, kidney or respiratory problems. Tamiflu should also be avoided strictly if you are likely to develop allergy against oseltamivir phosphate, the primary ingredient of Tamiflu.
