How Long Does It Take To Get A Green Card ?
There are a lot of formalities that have to be fulfilled in order to obtain a Green Card and these come before the process and also after the process. Moreover, there are several ways in which a person can apply for a Green Card and also lot of things depends on the nationality.
A person, who has been working on the United States for at least two years, can apply for a Green Card. They will need to request their employer to file in a petition on their behalf. Most employers file it in for their employees and it is a normal process for them. Usually after filing the petition, the person has to wait until their visa number becomes available. This may take 2 or more years sometime. And if some people are lucky, their visa number may become available even within six months.
Once the visa number becomes available they have to apply for an adjustment of status and this process can take anytime between six months to one year and after which the applicant is called for a Green Card interview by the Immigration and Naturalization Services.
The whole process in a nutshell can take three to four years and people have to be patient and continue doing their best until they get their turn. People who do not have any employment in the United States can approach their relatives for a petition to sponsor them for their Green Card.
These are the two most common procedures to get a Green Card in the United States.
