How To Obtain Naturalization ?

Obtaining naturalization is a time consuming and a long process and one needs patience to go through the whole process. The only way a person can become a naturalized citizen of the United States is by being born in the country or by applying for citizenship. The first one is an easier option if one had a choice.

However, in order to apply for citizenship, one has to fulfill several obligations and rules laid down by the immigration services. People who are 18 years and older are eligible to apply for naturalization through form N-400. The form usually has an eligibility worksheet with clear instructions. If you have been a Green Card holder that allowed you to stay as a Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) in the country, then you should have lived actively in United States for five consecutive years. If you have left the country while having the Green Card for a period more than 6 months, then you may not be eligible for the Green Card.

European nationals can enter the lottery system to obtain citizenship and the lucky draw is conducted twice a year. Only European nationals are eligible for the draw and the list of countries that are allowed to participate is clearly listed on the US Immigration website. Once the person satisfies all the requirements for citizenship, then he is invited for an interview and based on the findings at the time of the interview, the person is authorized to be naturalized.

Naturalization is usually conducted for a group of people in the judicial court and it requires the people to take an oath to serve the country they belong to now.
