Why Is Capillary Action Important ?

Capillary action is very important for all living beings and in face is one of the life processes itself. Human beings depend on this capillary action for blood circulation. The human body circulatory system supplies the body with blood and oxygen along with several other nutrients.

Blood in our body travels in a circular fashion. The blood flowing downward is easily understood, and it is because of gravity, but the blood flowing upward is caused due to capillaries.

The circulatory system has several capillaries in it to make this possible. The capillaries are the smallest blood vessels of the human body and even animals have them. Plants also have capillaries in the form of roots and tissues which carry water through out the plant to grow. When you water the plant, you will notice that while the soil is absorbing the water the roots are absorbing the water from the soil and sending it upwards to the plant.

Capillary action is even essential to maintain a candle flame for example. Even in the atmosphere several weather changes and patterns of weather depend on this capillary action. In the soil, with the help of capillary action the water from the wet areas is transferred to dry areas. It is a very important action that influences the ground water levels actually.

So, from basic life giving processes to several functions in nature depend on this capillary action. Just like world cannot exists without gravity, it cannot function without the capillary action also.
