Any disease which affects the mouth, esophagus, stomach, the intestines, rectum and anus are classified under diseases of the digestive system. Some of the diseases of the digestive system are as follow.

Many are affected by ulcers in the mouth and oral cavity. It could be the result of aphthous stomatitis, which, in turn, may be due to celiac disease. Treating the latter may cure the former. 

If a person has difficulty in swallowing, then he could be suffering from esophageal stricture. This is characterized by the narrowing of the esophagus. 

Another condition affecting the esophagus is esophagitis where the esophagus gets inflamed. 

An inflammation of the lining of the stomach is called gastritis, and could be caused by over consumption of alcohol. It can also occur when one takes in too many aspirins over a long period of time. 

Also, beware of peptic ulcers which occur more in the duodenum than in the stomach.  They are mucosal erosions which are more than 0.5 cm in diameter. 

The small intestine might suffer from enteritis when it gets inflamed. Be alerted to the fact if you suffer from diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, dehydration and cramping.   

When the gastrointestinal tract does not absorb nutrients properly it could result in malabsorption.  It could result in malnutrition. 

When the appendix gets inflamed, it is called appendicitis. It might require the removal of the appendix.

When the anus and the lining of the rectum get inflamed, it is called proctitis. Symptoms are rectal bleeding, difficulty in emptying the bowels, diarrhea, cramping and spasms.
