What Organs Are Involved In The Respiratory System ?

Our respiratory system is a very precious piece of complex machinery designed for the easy usage of the air around us to provide free breathing and good health. The body requires oxygen and it is provided for by continuously inhaling air and taking in oxygen and removing the toxins in our body as carbon dioxide. The process of respiration is directed by the organs in our body.

The organs of the respiratory system are:

  • The nose
  • The pharynx
  • The larynx (which is also known as voice box)
  • The nasal conchae (which are also called as turbinates)
  • The bronchi
  • The lungs
  • The trachea (which is usually referred to as the wind pipe)
  • The muscles of inspiration and expiration, which are the diaphragm and external intercostals muscles.

All these organs work together to create our respiratory system. As we know, the nose breathes air in. The pharynx carries the air towards the larynx, that goes through the trachea, which is the wind pipe. The function of the wind pipe is to let the air flow in the space. This then passes through the nasal conchae, which are regulated by the brochi. The biggest part in all of this is played of course by the lungs, which are the containers of the air that we breathe in.

These are the reason why we are able to inhale oxygen and release carbon dioxide. The flexibility that one allows to breathe in and breathe out is dependent on the willingness of the person and the lung capacity. In all, the respiratory system is an important system.
