New moms are at risk of many diseases but one of the most frightening diseases that a new mom can get is cardiovascular disease.
However, the good news is that cardiovascular disease in new mom can be controlled and the risk can be minimized if the risk factors are identified and then controlled.
Many new moms may suffer from high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, weight gain, and diabetes. These are all health conditions that can lead to cardiovascular disease during pregnancy and after childbirth. In addition, if the new mom was physically inactive during her pregnancy and continued smoking, it can create cardiac related problems.
When it comes to cardiovascular disease in new mom, the American Heart Association believes that the woman should get all the risk factors measured and accordingly chart out a treatment plan. This way, the doctor can measure the risk factors periodically to see whether the treatment plan is working out.
It is advisable that new moms should exercise for at 30 minutes in a day, and if possible on all days. The idea is to incorporate physical exercise in the fitness plan so that the new mom can lower all the factors that can cause a cardiovascular disease. The exercises that you do can be moderate. You do not have to do anything rigorous. So, even working in your garden, doing housework, leisure walking and dancing can help you. However, if you want to do more vigorous exercise, you can do jogging, brisk walking, swimming, aerobics or cycling. All these exercises will have a positive effect on your heart and improve its fitness.
