How To Know What Is Right Sugar Level For Diabetes Type 2

Blood glucose levels for people can vary from each other. There are several formats existing and people can get confused as to which one to follow. In fact, different hospitals follow different charts and there is no standardized chart available. Some charts tend to be very strict and others are more relaxed.

Like the American Diabetes Association has a more liberal chart whereas some other institutions that work for the betterment of people with diabetes follow more stringent charts.

The only way to determine the blood sugar level is through a blood examination. It has to be taken twice and in most cases a blood is drawn as soon as a person wakes up in the morning and is on empty stomach. This is called fasting sugar level. Then the second test is done after the person has lunch or the next meal. The sugar levels of both the times are compared and averaged out to see if the body is functioning properly. Sometimes the blood sugar levels are also taken before and after exercise to determine the accuracy.

Blood test in people with diabetes is taken by the doctor at least two to four times a year and they also advise that the patient monitor it regularly at home. The normal blood sugar levels which are considered to be safe are as follows.

Before Meals 90-130 mg/dl <110 mg/dl
1-2 hours After Meals <180 mg/dl <140 mg/dl

Sometimes the above values are also correlated to other factors like cholesterol and blood pressure. Even these conditions can have an impact on a diabetic patient.
