Ringworm On Newborn

Ringworm On Newborn

Ringworm is a fungal infection which is contagious. Since new born babies do not have enough immunity to fight off diseases, they are more prone to catching infections such as ringworm. Ringworm on a newborn may cause coin sized scaly patches on the scalp of about one diameter in size. The other areas of skin may develop some rashes which can be itchy.

Ringworm on newborn is possible when the infant comes into close contact with other members of the family having the same condition.

When such symptoms are visible you should take the baby to the pediatrician at the earliest. Some kind of anti-fungal cream may be prescribed for topical application. This treatment should be rigorously followed till the time the condition improves or else there may be a chance of relapse. In the meantime, it is also important to carefully wash the baby’s bedding and clothes to prevent recurrence of the infection. This needs to be done till the time the infection is not healed.

Though the ring worm can give rise to serious complications if not treated, proper and timely treatment can help get rid of the infection thus providing relief to the baby.  Dealing with diseases which are contagious is a little difficult even with older people; it just gets more difficult when it comes to infants. You need to watch out for symptoms and immediately seek the opinion of the doctor for quick and immediate relief and this is helpful for all kinds of conditions.
