One of the most common yeast infections is medically termed as “candidiasis.” This type of infection is caused by the yeast species known as Candida. These fungi live on skin surfaces all over our bodies. Infections due to this yeast species are rare.

There are some other types of yeast species which cause the common skin infections in humans. This includes athlete's foot, diaper rash and vaginal yeast infections. These infections are more prevalent in body areas which are exposed to constant rubbing or chaffing. 

Thrush is such an infection in the mouth and throat. This is caused by the Candida species of fungi. Symptoms of this type of yeast infection are white patches in the mouth.  This is common in people who suffer from chronic diseases such as diabetes and HIV. Candidal diaper rash are common among babies and toddlers who are not potty-trained. The rash occurs in the diaper area. Diaper rash due to Candida is usually caused by excess sweating, irregular diaper change, intake of antibiotics, and lack of movements. 

Treatment of yeast infections are easily done by purchasing over-the-counter prescription medicines and diaper rash creams. It does not take long to heal; at the most it will take around a week. There are other options for treating yeast infections. Vaginal yeast infections can be treated at home with nonprescription vaginal creams and suppositories. The use of antifungal agent nystatin can take care of thrush. Skin rash and diaper rash due to yeast infection can be treated with Clotrimazole creams and lotions. However, antifungal creams are proven to be very effective in treating most types of yeast infections. For diaper rash, it is important to change soiled diapers frequently. The use of barrier creams are shown to help with the healing process
