Insect Bites First Aid

There are several types of insect bites that can cause allergic reactions in people. Even ant bite sometimes becomes a bigger problem. Insects like ants, mosquitoes, bee and wasps may be of milder issue. But some insects like scorpions, bees, some types of spiders can cause death by their bite.

However, staying safe is a much better option than suffering the pain. The most common symptoms that a victim experiences after insect bite is itching and swelling in the bite area, chest pain, shortness of breath and palpitations. These symptoms are graver when the insect is poisonous. If you know what insect has bitten you, then you can take more appropriate care. However, if you notice any involuntary muscle actions or convulsions in the victim, then you should call 911 immediately.

For immediate relief from pain try to apply a cream that has acetaminophen base or ibuprofen in it. If you do not have external medications then take a Motrin or ibuprofen to relieve the pain. To ease the irritation on skin, take an ice pack and apply it on that area. However it also depends where the insect bit you. For example, if it bit you on delicate areas like the eye ball or inside your ear, then you should seek medical help even if it is mild. Also, treating a bee bite and being attacked by a swarm of bees are completely different. Bites of scorpions and widow spiders should be treated in the emergency room only.
