Heat exhaustion mainly occurs because the body cannot evaporate enough sweat to cool it off. Things like drinking ice water when it is very hot can cause abdominal cramps. However, soda does not seem to have the same effect.
Soda causes the body to become dry and because it contains caffeine, it elevates the heart rate, and also it has sugar, which the body coverts into energy immediately. This process creates heat and makes the body dehydrated and dry because of the sugar actually. The same condition arises with alcohol.
Heat stroke is one of the most serious heat associated illnesses, and it occurs when the body is not able to control its internal temperature. The body’s temperature can rise rapidly and the natural sweating mechanism of the body fails and the body is unable to cool down.
Body temperature during heat exhaustion can rise up to 106 degrees within 10 to 15 minutes and this kind of body temperature can be extremely dangerous. Heat stroke occasionally can cause death or even cause permanent disability in case emergency treatment is not provided.
It is believed that immediate remedies like having lime juice with a pinch of salt and some sugar can relieve and cause the body temperatures to come down. Drinks like ORS seem to have good effect on the body during heat exhaustion. These liquids can help to keep your boy hydrated and prevent dehydration which is the main culprit to complicate matters. During heat exhaustion preventing dehydration is the key.
