Heat related illness can vary from a mild heat exhaustion to being the most severe form of heat stroke. Many people die from heat stroke and related causes every year. Heat stroke is a kind of condition that affects the central nervous system which makes the body stop sweating and also affects the working of the organs. 

Getting treatment immediately for a heat stroke is very important.

How do you avoid heat? Here are some basic things that you can do to avoid heat. Start by wearing light and loose clothes. This helps the air to circulate well and keep the body temperature low. Also, make sure that you drink plenty of fluids. Stay in the shade or mostly indoors. Avoid food that is high in protein as this will increase metabolic heat. Do not do strenuous activities. If you have to do strenuous activities, then do them when the weather is cooler. Do not leave children or pets shut in automobiles without any ventilation.

Heat stroke is caused due to excessive heat, which also causes dehydration. Most of the heat stroke related deaths take place in the summer months, and the highest number of deaths occurs in the month of June. That should tell you that summers are the months to watch out for.

The most susceptible are children, elderly and the ones who work outdoors like construction workers for example. Also, people who are prone to heat stroke are the ones who have been drinking alcohol. In fact, people who drink alcohol regularly are 15 times more likely to suffer a heat stroke and face increased dehydration. Men tend to die of heat strokes more than women because the rate of alcohol consumption is higher in men.
