Side Effects Of Body Building Supplements  

Most of the body building supplements have serious side effects. The side effects are more serious with prohormones and testosterone boosters. These supplements are known to increase the testosterone-estrogen ratio. Excess testosterone is known to cause undesirable side effects, such as hair loss and acne.

These may be converted into estrogens, which can have undesirable effects on males, such as gynecomastia and testicular atrophy. Gynecomastia is the development of abnormally large mammary glands in males resulting in breast enlargement, which can sometimes cause secretion of milk. Testicular atrophy is a medical condition in which the male reproductive organs, testes, diminish in size and may be accompanied by loss of function.

This condition is likely to reverse when the supplementation is stopped, provided it is not too long (in excess of 20 weeks).

The supplements can also further convert to DHT.Many side effects associated with excessive levels of DHT, including male pattern baldness, testicular shrinkage, enlarged prostrate (leading to prostrate cancer)and acne.

Although initially available over the counter, in 2004 prohormone purchase was made illegal without a prescription in the US.

Increased creatine levels from creatine supplements causes a number of negative side-effects  like stomach cramps and bloating, diarrhea, indemia, water retention, dehydration, headaches, liver and kidney problems and creatine poisoning. When these high doses of powder enter the stomach they draw water from the body, causing the intestines to contract. These side-effects are due to the body’s internal self-defense mechanism reacting to save itself from the ingested toxins by diluting it with water.
