Rockstar is an energy drink created in 2001. Rockstar is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, and was founded by Russell Weiner. This energy drink is sold in many countries and has several varieties. It is reported that energy drink companies are including more and more ingredients into their products to make them appealing to the customers.  Although many people may believe that creatine is one of the ingredients in the drink, it actually is not. Caffeine, Taurine, and L-Carnitine are the most common ingredient in most of the energy drinks.

Caffeine is the most common stimulant used in many Coke and Mountain Dew. An 8 oz cup of percolated coffee contains 65 to 125 mg of caffeine, while a can of Rockstar energy drink has 160 mg. Taurine is an ingredient found in most of the energy drinks. Taurine is an amino acid and found in the human body, especially in muscles and in the brain. It is a building block for proteins. Hence, Taurine is required by athletes and weightlifters. Lack of Taurine can cause muscles to remain small and underdeveloped.

Taurine is a protein available from seafood, eggs and milk products. Energy drinks such as Rockstar contain large quantities of Taurine. No study has been conducted so far to assess the effects of Taurine concentrates from energy drinks. It has not been labeled as a harmful substance to be avoided.

L-Carnitine is another substance found in energy drinks. Adequate supply of this substance is needed for maintenance of good health. L-Carnitine is the major source for the production of energy in heart and skeletal muscles. L-Carnitine allows the body to burn more fat and is known to boost stamina and endurance. Unless a person is deficient in L-Carnitine, this substance is not needed as a supplement.

The following are ingredients that are used in Rockstar energy drink:

Fructose corn syrup, dextrose, Carbonated water, natural and artificial flavors, niacinamide, inositol, l-carnitine, milk thistle extract, pyridoxine hydrochloride , Ginkgo biloba leaf extract, Citric acid, Siberian ginseng root extract, Guarana seed extract, Taurine, Caramel color, Sodium benzoate, Cyanocobalamin, Ascorbic acid, Potassium sorbate, Calcium pantothenate, Riboflavin
