Both vitamins B6 and B12 of water-soluble and form part of the B group of vitamins. Vitamin B6 has important implications in the satisfactory functioning of both the physical, nervous and immune system.
It helps in the production of hemoglobin, is needed in the conversion of amino acids into niacin and helps control blood sugars. Vitamin B6 transforms stored nutrients and carbohydrates into sugar and utilizes them to meet energy requirements.
Vitamin B6 is found in meat and fish, beans, whole wheat grains and certain fruit and vegetables. Bananas are very rich in vitamin B6 and so is wheat germ. Most fortified cereals contained a great quantity of vitamin B6.
Vitamin B12 is equally important with somewhat overlapping roles. It is also an active ingredient in the production of red the cells and helps metabolize fats and proteins. It is also a powerful antioxidant. One of its most important functions is to synthesize a fatty substance name myelin which forms a sheath around the nerve fibers. Vitamin B12 further prevents debility of cells and becoming malignant. Cases of Vitamin B12 deficiency are comparatively rare except in adults past the age of 50 with digestive systems that may be impaired. The deficiency could be augmented with fortified supplements, B12 injections or oral medication.
The B12 is found only in animal products such as meat, fish, milk, eggs, cheese and yoghurt. It is also available in fortified cereals.
Both vitamins have dissimilar but important roles to play in the maintenance of muscle cells and the central nervous system. Because of this influence, they prevent leg cramps, muscle spasms and particularly numbness and stiffness in the hands and arms.
