Usually obesity is a condition that has been associated with adults so far. However, now even children are highly prone to obesity and there are several children being diagnosed with it every year in America. One of the researches even suggests that the rate of obesity has doubled in the last three decades in America among children.

However, obesity is attached to several health risks and that is what is worrisome because it simply does not imply being overweight or oversized alone.

There are several unfortunate facts that have been associated with obesity in children and here are some of them.

  • The number of children and adolescents who are obese and being diagnosed with Type-2 diabetes or commonly known as the adult onset diabetes is high. Diabetes can interfere with the growth of the child and also expose them to heart-related diseases. Being overweight might make the insulin resistance worse.
  • Obesity also causes high cholesterol and blood pressure which are the main risk factors that lead to heart diseases in children.
  • Obesity causes sleep apnea which is a sleeping disorder that causes disruption in breathing patterns and is considered as the most common problem faced by obese children. It has also been noticed that sleep apnea may lead to problems associated with learning and memory.
  • Obese children have a higher risk of developing diseases related to liver like hepatitis; joints problems; and breathing problems such as asthma.
          That is why parents are being urged to take some preventive measures actually to overcome such a condition in their children.
