Ideas For Decorating A Childs Bedroom
A child’s bedroom should be judiciously designed and decorated to suit the likes and dislikes of the child. It should be a safe, multi-functional space, where the child can sleep, relax, play, study, spend time on hobbies, and store his/her personal belongings securely.
There are a large number of decorating themes available for styling a kid’s bedroom and it is not an easy task to choose the one that would best suit your child’s personality and nature.
Here are a few simple ideas for decorating a child’s bedroom to help you get started:
- The right choice of the décor theme depends on whether the child is a boy or a girl. The most common themes used for decorating a small boy’s bedroom include those based on sports, airplanes, pirates, cars and trucks, animals, music and rock stars, trains, and ships. On the other hand, the themes that should be considered for a girl child are based on flowers, fairy tales, teddy bears and soft toys, music and dance, and princess tales.
- The color scheme should be in harmony with the overall theme of the bedroom. For girls, you can consider using a combination of different shades of pink and green, yellow and white, orange and pink, or lavender and white. In case of boys, try darker tones of bright colors, such as orange, red, mocha, turquoise, sage, black, and purple.
- To ensure child’s safety, avoid using heavy electronics in the bedroom. Also, use light furniture with smooth corners and clean lines. Using multi-functional furniture in the child’s room can save a lot of space for other activities. For instance, you can use a bed, featuring a toy chest at the side, a book shelf at the top, and a storage drawer at the bottom. Other elements that go well with all the themes include an art station, a bean bag chair, a floor pillow, and small child-sized study table.
Besides these basic decorating ideas, there are many themes and specific ideas that you can think of to please your child’s interests. As most kids love to listen to stories, consider designing the room around the popular fictional characters that they see in story books and animated movies. For instance, use wall papers illustrating the story of Shrek, Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse, Tom and Jerry, or any other favorite animated character. Use matching color schemes for walls, curtains, bedspreads, and slip coverings. For instance, if you are using a Bambi wallpaper, use of brown and green colors, a tree-shaped lamp stand, bedspreads and curtains with pictures of flowers and grass, chairs with animal characters, and soft carpets can bring a forest-like effect in the bedroom. Similarly you can use themes based on stories of pirate coves, bugs, safari, animals, etc.
Thus, with these ideas and a little creativity and imagination, you can bring fiction to life in your child’s bedroom.
