Food That Can Trigger Rheumatoid Arthritis

If you have rheumatoid arthritis you should know that certain foods might trigger your arthritis symptoms. In fact, many people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis are not aware of the effects certain foods can produce.

According to certain research, tomatoes are not at all good for people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis as it can trigger inflammation and discomfort in general. Tomatoes contain an alkaloid known as solanine and scientists believe that people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis do not have the mechanism to neutralize solanine, which is toxic, and this triggers joint pains.

Potatoes, eggplant and peppers also belong to Solanum family and have solanine in their leaves and roots which provide natural protection to the plant against insects. When humans consume these vegetables, the intestine are responsible for neutralizing solanine in normal people but this does not happen in people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.

Research has also shown that people who consume high protein food are more prone to developing rheumatoid arthritis. Even those who do not consume sufficient fruits and vegetables can develop rheumatoid arthritis. Research has shown that people who consume food rich in carotenoids are less likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis. These carotenoids are namely zeaxanthin and beta-cryptoaxanthin, and the foods rich in these carotenoids are oranges, tangerine, watermelon, papaya, plums, apricots, corn, carrots, cilantro, pickles and squash.

There is definitely a connection between rheumatoid arthritis and food. People suffering from rheumatoid arthritis should pay close attention to what they eat and check when the inflammation increases. Then they can easily avoid those foods to ensure. Scientists, too, are conducting a lot of research on food that can trigger rheumatoid arthritis.
