Eye diseases and conditions and headaches go hand in hand. One of the most commons symptoms of an eye problem is a headache. However, in opposition to the popular belief that people have vision problems, refraction errors and some other common eye infections actually do not always cause headaches.
Headaches are often a result of eye strain. When a person has an eye condition that is affecting the vision and they are trying too hard to focus on something, their eyes get tired and hence, it leads to headaches. These headaches are very different from the regular headaches a person experiences.Improperly focusing eyes and being in need of glasses for correct refraction do not often cause headaches. It is true that headaches may result from some eye diseases, but the widespread belief that many recurring headaches are preventable with glasses is incorrect. In the absence of obvious eye disease, such as redness, soreness, infection or injury, only a few eye diseases such as glaucoma remain to cause headaches. However, because of these rare possibilities, a person with unexplained headaches should always have the benefit of an eye examination to settle any doubt.
Glaucoma headaches typically start around the eye and turn into a general headache. It can be a very painful syndrome. The pain caused is due to the increasing pressure behind the eyeball. The headache increases as the pressure increases, and if the condition is left unchecked, it can lead to permanent blindness. The optic nerve is behind the eye. So, it is not be well adapted to take the building pressure, and get damaged in the bargain leading to blindness.
