What Is The Capital Of Chile ?

Santiago in central Chile is the capital city of this country, and most Santiaguinos say that ‘Santiago is Chile’.

The city is a major tourist attraction, with the Andes as its backdrop, coastal ranges and a green valley. It was founded in 1541 by Pedro de Valdivia, at the base of Cerro Santa Lucia, and along the banks of the Mapocho River.Just six months after it was built, Santiago was nearly destroyed by the Mapuche Indians. Over the years it has been rebuilt, having survived floods, earthquakes, wars and many natural calamities. Today, one of the largest cities of South America, Santiago is a bustling city that is considered Chile’s cultural, commercial, industrial and political hub. Over the last decades, the city has seen tremendous growth, lots of high rises and a large population estimated at 6 million.

A cosmopolitan and colorful city, Santiago will not let its visitors down. It has hotels, restaurants and bars to suit all pockets. It has small boutiques to craft fairs to swanky shopping mall. The things to do while Santiago are just too many, and there is something to suit every kind of taste. So, if art and culture is your thing, then there are art galleries, museums, theaters, opera and ballet. For the party animals, there are lively nightclubs, and those who prefer quieter pleasures can enjoy their time at the parks and tree-lined streets. There are distinct neighborhoods that you will enjoy exploring, and at many places you will see ultra-modern structures right next to shabby old buildings. Vendors and peddlers will bother you on local buses, but the city’s subway system will let you travel in peace and comfort.
